About this Store

Carquest Auto Parts in Wamego has a rich history of providing top-quality automotive parts and outstanding service to the community. The original parts store at this location was a Western Auto store, owned by Ed Yager. After relocating from another site in Wamego, Ed built half of the current store in the 1970s and expanded it in the 1980s.

When Ed retired, he sold Western Auto to Mike and Janice Dekat. Their sons, Paul and Jay, each owned a 10% stake in the company. Before acquiring the store, Mike Dekat worked at Laird Nollar Ford from 1969 to 1979, while he and Janice successfully ran Mike’s Wholesale Parts for 27 years. In 1995, the store transitioned from Western Auto to Carquest, introducing the brand’s trusted name and industry-leading distribution to Wamego.

In September 2017, Todd and Tamara Wichman purchased the store, continuing its legacy of exceptional service and community involvement. They remodeled the store in April 2023, making it one of the most impressive Carquest locations in the region.
